7th Grade ELA Lesson Plans
Week of February 4-8, 2013
Monday, 2/4/13 Plans moved from Friday, 2/1/13 to Mon. 2/4/ due to Friday's Snow Day
Objectives:
  • display current knowledge and mastered knowledge of Chapters 1-3 in Watsons, including use of figurative language, dialect, characterization and setting, as discussed in class.
Procedures:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • What are today's objectives?
  • Take Chapter 1-3 open notes OR open book "quiz"--discuss answers.
  • Discuss the note left from the substitute in my absence last Thursday :( and how to be "positive influences" in the class, instead of letting the "negative influences" dominate.
  • In-class writing assignment: "Reflective Letter" due at beginning of class tomorrow, or will serve a lunch detention.
  • If time, begin reading Chapter 4 independently.
Homework:
  • Read Chapter 4 and continue to take annotated notes
  • Word Wisdom pgs 112-113 due Wednesday and pgs 114-115 Thursday
  • Students who earned less than 70% on Unit 4 (30-word) test and/or averaged less than 80% on U5P1, U5P2, and U5P3 posttests ARE REQUIRED to complete the Unit 5 30-word study guide
  • 30-word Unit 5 WW Quiz this Friday.

Tuesday, 2/5/13
Objectives:
  • demonstrate mastery of U5P3 words
Procedures:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • What are today's objectives?
  • Take U5P3 word wisdom quiz from Friday---Mrs. Tolin will walk around to check for stamps received yesterday from substitute/student leader in order to record grades for pgs 106-111
  • Distribute & begin (independently) completing Chapter 4 reading check 'quiz' (will count as "homework" grade; not weighted as a quiz grade)
  • Return Chapters 1-3 'Quiz' and discuss correct answers.
  • Begin reading Chapter 5 in class--finish for HW, if not finished.
Homework:
  • Read Chapter 5
  • Word Wisdom pgs 112-113 due tomorrow and pgs 114-115 Thursday
  • Unit 5 30-word study guide due Friday (for students who earned 21/30 or less on Unit 4 30-word test)
  • 30-word Unit 5 WW Quiz this Friday.

Wednesday, 2/6/13
Objectives:
Procedures:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • What are today's objectives?
  • Distribute Chapter 4-6 Study Guide (complete at least 1/2 tonight for HW)
  • Distribute Unit 5 (30 word) Study List-- mandatory for students who earned 21/30 (or less) on Unit 4 (30-word) test; optional study tool for other students.
  • I will check WW pages for completion while students begin working on Study Guides.
  • Discuss Chapters 4-5 using students' discussion questions created yesterday on Chapter 4 "Reading Check"
    • Do you agree with Momma's form of discipline with Byron? Was she justified in what she threatened to do? Do you think she would've actually burned Byron if Joey hadn't blown out the match? Support your answer.
    • Is it "appropriate" or "inappropriate" for the author to include profanity in his book (geared towards readers your age) to build Byron's characterization?Support your opinion.
    • Could the author just as successfully shown Byron as disrespectful in a different way-- that perhaps wouldn't be quite so (potentially) offensive to his readers? Support your opinion.
    • Discuss Byron's attempt to speak German on page 56
  • Begin listening to Chapter 6 in class.
Homework:
  • Bonus Opportunity (+1 pt.): (Write your first & last name with your answer on a half sheet of paper- due first thing tomorrow morning! )
    • Translate what Byron was trying to say on page 65. He said, “Ya hold mine fewer, off we der same!” But what he was trying to pronounce in German was, “Jawohl, mein Fuhrer! Auf wiedersehen!”. What does that translate to in English?
  • Finish reading Chapter 6, if we didn't finish in class today.
  • Chapter 4-6 Study Guide (complete at least 1/2 tonight for HW)
  • Complete the rest of U5P4 WW pgs due tomorrow; 30-word quiz Friday

Thursday, 2/7/13
Objectives:
  • check current understanding of U5 words and review for tomorrow's quiz.
Procedures:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • What are today's objectives?
  • Check WW pages 114-115 for completion; correct answers with a student leader.
  • Play Word Wisdom B-I-N-G-O as review for tomorrow's 30 word quiz (Unit 5)
  • Finish Chapter 4-6 Study Guide by tomorrow---Chapter 4-6 "Open" Quiz tomorrow-- will be allowed to use either book or study guide; be prepared with both.
Homework:
  • Study for 30 word Unit 5 posttest tomorrow.
  • Finish Chapter 4-6 Study Guide before tomorrow. Ch 4-6 "Open Quiz" tomorrow-- will be allowed to use either book or study guide; be prepared with both.

Friday, 2/8/13
Objectives:

  • Take U5 30-word Quiz--check answers together, if time.
  • Begin Watsons Ch. 4-6 'Open 'quiz' (will count for HW grade; not weighted as a quiz)---grade together, discuss answers.
  • Continue and/or correct Practice OAA from last Friday (6th period didn't start theirs last week).
